What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a holistic therapy based on the discovery that there are reflex points on the feet, hands and ears which correspond to organs and systems in the body.  We talk about a reflex  when a stimulation of one point brings about a response in another part of the body. By using special pressure techniques to stimulate those points the therapist can detect imbalances in the tissues, organs and systems of the body and can effectively stimulate them to help restore balance and wellbeing. The foot is a reflection of the major body systems such as skin, musculoskeletal, secretory, nervous and circulatory system. Reflexology can improve nervous and circulatory function and can help the body achieve a higher degree of balance.

Reflexology affects the nervous system in a very positive and relaxing way.  A single reflexology session will stimulate about 7000 nerve endings helping to increase functionality and health. When the body is relaxed and the nervous system is stimulated, healing can take place. Each reflexology treatment promotes positive energy flow and helps carry oxygen and nutrients to all the cells which naturally enhances the immune system and activates the healing powers of the body.

Reflexology is helpful not only for people seeking to improve their health and reduce pain but also for energetic and busy people who believe that prevention is better than cure.  It has been estimated that over 75% of all illness is stress related therefore finding time for relaxation should be an important part of our daily or weekly routine. Everyone needs relaxation, balance and quiet moments of reflection to experience inner peace and wellbeing.

Initially you may decide to have a one off session of Reflexology in order to “recharge your batteries“ and experience this holistic therapy before you decide what suits you best going forward.

In case of a deeper problem or a chronic pain issue, it is better to have a series of  about 5 treatments in order to restore a good energy flow which will help the body to heal.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy and does not replace the need for medical diagnosis or medical treatment.

When not to have Reflexology

  • fever
  • infectious disease (flu, Covid, etc)
  • foot injury
  • skin infections of the foot eg athletes foot, verrucas or other fungal infections
